If you’re a candy corn fan, this card is for you.
And if you’re not a candy corn fan? You’ll still love how this card came together—because it’s less about the candy and more about the playful texture, creative techniques, and a little wink of foil magic.
I created this card for National Candy Corn Day and used the Candy Corn die from This Calls for Confetti. The set actually comes with a shaker element too (which is super fun), but for this project, I decided to skip the shaker and focus on the bold, layered look you can get with just the base die and some good old-fashioned ink.
To get that classic candy corn vibe, I started by die cutting three candy corn shapes using the die from the shaker set. I didn’t use the shaker window, but I did get clever with it. I inked the interior edge of the shaker frame with a soft yellow ink and gently pressed it onto the candy corn pieces. That gave me a light guideline to follow while blending—super helpful for keeping those sections clean and even.
I used Distress Oxide inks in Scattered Straw, Mustard Seed, and Fired Brick, and blended each piece to get that soft, creamy gradient that candy corn is known for.
Now, I love a little extra texture, but I didn’t want to add bulk since I wasn’t going with a layered card. So here’s the trick: I used the Web stencil and ran the whole piece through my die cutting machine using the Sizzix embossing pad.
Instead of cutting, the machine pressed the pattern into the cardstock. The result? Subtle, embossed webs right over the ink-blended candy corn shapes. It’s such a cool way to get more mileage out of your stencils.
To anchor my sentiment, I die cut a circle from vellum so the words would stand out without covering too much of the background. Both sentiments are from the BOO Sentiments cut-apart set, also from This Calls for Confetti, and I foiled them in orange using my Minc. That little pop of shine totally brings the card to life.
The final touch? Two little ink-blended hearts—punched from cardstock and shaded with the same colors I used on the candy corn for a cohesive look.
