From Holiday to Hero: Father’s Day Cards Made with ‘Out-of-Season’ Supplies

Hey Besties!!

I am sharing some cards I made for This Calls for Confetti with a Father’s Day theme. And a twist!!  I have two different cards that use mostly the same supplies (dies, stamps and stencils) but the twist is that neither of these stencils were designed to be used for masculine cards. And if you are a little like me, the cards for the guys in my life are a little harder to make. So I accepted the challenge and created these cards. You will have to tell me in the comments what you think about these cards for guys made with Christmas supplies!!

Let’s dive into the first card.

This one starts with the Sparkles 6×6 Stencil by This Calls for Confetti. I used creamy browns as my color scheme. I love a neutral card. They are just so peaceful. I did add Champaign colored embossing powder and thread to my supplies for this card,  although I feel like they fit in the creamy browns pallet that I was going for. I started by stamping and die cutting the Happy Father’s Day sentiment rectangle from the Happy Sentiments stamp and die set. Y’all I love the way that you can layer so many words into the “happy”. The die set expands this by adding the die cut letters Happy too.

I then ink blended my background using the Sprinkles Stencil. I used an ink dauber to get a “blotchy” feel around the bottom of the card. I wanted a bit of an aged feel like this card had been handled by lots and lots of people.  I die cut that background using the Happy Layering dies. For added interest I used the large postage stamp die from the Layer It metal dies set (this one is great for making shakers because you already have the “boarder” added into the die). I also ink blended the lightest of the ink trio that I was using so that it was not white against the white card base.  Now let’s talk about this sentiment. I mentioned above that I love how this mixes with to make so many “Happy” sentiments. So to create this look I stamped the word happy first. Then I embossed it with a champaign colored embossing powder. The “father’s day” is stamped in the same color as the stars that I ink blended. Since the stamp set is clear it is SO easy to line up the smaller words into the open space in the “happy”. I did not use a stamp positioning tool, but you could. I picked an espresso colored cardstock from my stash and matted the sentiment. The finishing touch for this card is the gold thread. I love this look and use the DMC metallic floss for all my threads. It’s such a fun texture to any card, without adding a lot of bulk.

On to our second card…

Y’all I’m so in love with this card. I know it’s not necessarily what you would think of for a Father’s Day card. I started with the Pretty Petals stencil. This was part of the Christmas/Holiday/ Winter release. It looks SOOO pretty colored for Christmas. When I first saw it I really thought of fall flowers. It just reminded me of sunflowers. So when I started to think about this blog post and how I wanted to create Father’s Day cards with products not created specifically for Father’s Day, this stencil set was at the top of my list. I did struggle a bit because I didn’t want to make these sunflowers. I was inspired by a Target ad. The red logo against blues and browns. I used Versafine Clair ink for this card and I’m not sure I would ever ink blend with that ink again. Y’all it didn’t want to come out of my brushes. But that is another story all together.

One of things I love about all of the stencils from This Calls for Confetti is the quality of them. Those narrow parts are strong enough to hold up to stenciling without moving or using pixie spray. Fun fact: I can’t do pixie spray. It’s a texture thing. When I find stencils that are as well crafted as the This Calls for Confetti ones , I buy them all! LOL This card use the same sentiment stamps as the first card. I used a tan/brown ink in place of the heat embossed Happy on the first card. I layered this on the same espresso colored card stock. The card front is matted on some red cardstock as well. I used gold thread on this card too. I know I say it often but I really do love how this card turned out. It’s not your typical card and I love that!!!

Thanks for coming and checking out my Father’s Day creations. I hope that you are inspired to create something toady!
